Baise Horse Facts & Information (Breed Profile)
The Baise is a pony-sized horse breed that has been grown in the grasslands of China’s autonomous Guangxi province for over 2000 years.
Similar to the Mongolian horse and other Asian breeds, they are able to live at high elevations and roam freely grazing when they are not working.
The Baise horses have played an important role in the lives of the locals since around 20 BC, and they have also been an important part of traditional wedding celebrations.
During farming seasons, they are rounded up and kept in barns.
The National Baise Horse Genetic Resources Conservation Area is a protected area in Guangxi that was established for the purpose of conserving the Baise horse.
Two bronze statues of horses carrying riders, coated in gold and dating from between 206 and 25 B.C., that were excavated in 1972 and 1980, bore a striking resemblance to the Baise horses in conformation.
