Sella Italiano Facts & Information (Breed Profile)
The Sella Italiano is a breed of horse that was developed in Italy.
A statute was issued by the Italian government that established a stud book for the new breed.
The breed is a combination of indigenous Italian breeds of Maremmano, Salernitano and Persano, and Anglo Arabo Sardo, Purosangue Orientale, Arabian and Thoroughbred blood.
If the offspring of these horses are successful in a “performance test,” then they are eligible to be registered as Sella Italiano horses.
To be included into the herd book, animals must be of known pedigree and not have any direct or indirect draft-breed relatives beyond the third generation.
In addition, other European Warmbloods may also be registered in the stud book if they pass the performance test and get breed registration approval.
The goal of the breeders is to develop a sport horse that is capable of performing well at the highest level of international competitions.
