Argentine farmers in the early part of the 20th century imported Shetland ponies and Welsh ponies into the country, which led to the development of a new breed of pony.
The Welsh and Shetland varieties eventually blended together, giving rise to the new breed known as the Petiso Argentino, and the studbook was created in 1982.
